Calypso Rose Represents Trinidad & Tobago in Geneva

Calypso Rose took to the stage last night (Friday 11th November) in Geneva, Switzerland performing at the Festival Les Créatives. Started in 2005, the Creative Festival celebrates artistic creation in the feminine and shines the spotlight on women's creative world. This year the festival featured Trinbagonian Calypso Rose who recently became the first artist from Trinidad and Tobago to have a GOLD album and with Platinum on its horizon Calypso Rose has taken Europe by storm. In 1972, Calypso Rose (Linda McCartha Monica Sandy-Lewis) was also the first artist to be awarded the tittle of Calypso Queen and six years later, the gender-neutral title of Calypso Monarch. 

Her performance at the festival, in my opinion, was one of the best I've seen in a very long time. Having promoted the Caribbean culture in Dubai I will say I'm used to seeing people from different countries enjoy the music of the Caribbean but after seeing hundreds of people chanting for someone who is over 70 years and performing a genre that some may say died years ago on a global stage it was not only patriotic but moving. 

During her performance and after spotting a few Trini's in the crowd with a T&T flag she stopped and acknowledged them and raised the flag high also continuing to speak about elections and singing the national anthem. She performed her songs off her new album " Far From Home", co-produced by international star Manu Chao along with some oldies but goodies. The crowd sang, cheered, clapped, chanted, danced and from the time Calypso Rose stepped on stage till the time she left, the energy levels were kept high.
