On the Decks with DJ Bliss
DJ Bliss
1) How did you get your name?
From a song called "set adrift on memory bliss"
2) You won the Plame DJ Competition in 2005, How was that feeling and how did it help your career?
It was so long ago I can't remember the exact feeling but everything that's happened in My career has helped me progress in some way or the other whether it was good or bad.
3) Do you think competitions matter if you want to be a DJ?
Absolutely. Competition in any way or form is good.
4) What styles of music do you prefer to play and what will you never play even if paid a lot for?
I like all styles. And I like mashing it up. It's called open format. I don't like to be told what to play period. I prefer if I was told to "do you"
5) How was the difference DJing for a crowd and being on the radio?
A Crowd is more interactive and you see the reaction. Radio is masses but at the end of the day you are talking into a mic
6) Tell us a bit more about Bliss Inc and its subsidiaries?
We have 411 nights which is 5 years of the best hip hop parties. We have the Living Room which are old school parties. Qb7 audio/video production. Trf online is a blog. SELEKT talent booking agency for DJs. And my barbershop beats and cuts.
7) How do you juggle it all and what was your drive behind everything you do?
I love what I do and I don't see it as a job.
8) You supported other DJs for almost a decade with RealFlava till the rebranding to SELEKTME. What made the sudden change and why do you see the need to build a platform to support people of the same trade and what's the plans for it in the future?
I just wanted to start fresh and out DJs play all types of music. The Real Flava was really urban. We currently have 10 DJs in the agency and we hope to double that number in the next few months.
11) What is a typical day for you, balancing work and personal life?
Since I got married I go home at around 6/7. Before I used to wake up go to work until I needed to sleep then I'd go home.
12) You recently launched your first album, How long did it take for you to finish it and is this your new direction?
It took 5 years. It's a project I had and wanted to get out. It's also to support local talent however I'm now focusing on my own music releases in the next few months. I have a deal with Universal and we have some great things in the pipeline so yes music and my vlogs is the new direction.
