Discover A Thriver: Kyle Matas
Kyle Matas is a Trinidadian born, NewYork based fashion designer and contemporary artist. Having attained distinctions in art and design at both ordinary and advanced level examinations at Queens Royal College, he was awarded an open scholarship. He went on to pursue his undergraduate studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design, double majoring in fashion design and accessory design, where he graduated with first-class honours respectively. He was subsequently awarded another scholarship to pursue his graduate degree at Parsons, the new school for design, where he attained a masters degree in production design. After completing his graduate studies, he worked in the New York Fashion District at some of the most prestigious international fashion houses, including Ralph Rucci, Maggie Norris and J.Mendel and worked on garments that were worn by many celebrities and dignitaries including the former US first lady Michelle Obama.
In 2014 he launched his namesake label at New York Fashion Week, which was well received by the international fashion industry. The Kyle Matas New York label is best known for its bright colours and bold signature prints and its balance of functionality and design.
